Summer 2017: New audio comes from Martin Edwards' tape of 1962 newscasts, courtesy of Phil Gray; also a sportscast from early 1971, courtesy of Brian Olson. We're also adding another segment of Larry King's 1978 psychic readings from Fringus.
We've still got a LOT more audio that we'll add every quarter.
In addition, check out the "Museum" for an oddity in the ticket section.
We've made it easier to find the additions and changes we've made to the history pages by underlining them. Those pages for summer include:
1938-1944: The Networks at War
1957-1959: On the Edge
1972-1977: Coming to Life
Mutual Spanish Network
1985 to the End: The Westwood One Years
Spotlight Bands
The Walter Winchell Show
SOMETHING YOU MAY NOT KNOW: Be sure to move your cursor over each photo for descriptions and extra information. It's always been there, you just may not know about it!
We're always looking for your additions to the Mutual story, be it your audio (especially "Wide Weekend of Sports" and feature programs), photos, documents, scans of stuff or memories - PLEASE E-mail me!

Winter 2016: Thanks to Phil Gray for the tape of early 1960s newscasts - we'll be adding them to the "Audition Booth" from time to time, starting with two Martin Edwards newscasts from 1960. There's also a LOT more audio that has been sent to us, we'll add it in gradually. We've also tweaked some other pages, so have a look around.
You might notice a change in page and sound file names, we did so mainly to make it easier for your webmaster to keep them organized.
We're still asking for your additions to the Mutual story, be it your audio (especially sportscasts and feature programs), photos, documents, scans of stuff or memories - PLEASE E-mail me!

July 9, 2016: OOPS! We were just alerted to a few broken links in the "Audition Booth." They have been repaired, and we've also added a couple of items in the "Museum": a 1950 program schedule from the MBS affiliate in Nashville, and a 1989 network program schedule.
Also, thanks for your e-mails and good comments! And we're looking for any Mutual audio you may have - please E-mail me!

June 7, 2016: SPECIAL: We remember "The Greatest" with a special addition at the top of the "Museum." R.I.P., Champ.

Spring 2016: The "Listening Room" is now the "Audition Booth," and we've added new audio - with more to come, so look for the >>NEW!!<<. Also, don't forget to check out the audio we've uncovered of MBS' 1936 welcome to the Don Lee Network.
We've also added new information to most of the "history" pages, too, so have a look around!
We're always looking for your Mutual audio - particularly sportscasts and features - and stories. E-mail me!

January 13, 2016: HAPPY NEW YEAR!! We've added a number of new items to the "Museum," as well as new audio to the "Listening Room," so look for the >>NEW!!<<. We've also added new information to other pages, so have a look around!
And as always, we're looking for your Mutual audio - particularly sportscasts and features - and stories. E-mail me!

November 9, 2015: It's been a while since our last update, but we've been busy: We've added new audio to the "Listening Room" - look for >>NEW!!<<. We've also reorganized the "Museum," updated and added affiliate lists from the 1940s and 50s (it's now easier to track the development of the network), and added some new pictures and details elsewhere. So please take a look around!
(P.S.: there's more to come!!)
We've been in touch with Gary Worth, who held various posts in Mutual from the 3M days to Amway, and served under six MBS presidents! We had a long conversation, so look for his stories and recollections in the future.
We're also talking with longtime Mutual correspondent Dick Rosse and getting his stories, so stay tuned for that, too.
And we're still looking for your Mutual audio - particularly sportscasts and features - and stories. E-mail me!

March 1, 2015: New in "The Stories:" Recollections from Glenn Morgan - Mutual's Music Director from 1980 to 1983 - of "The Dick Clark National Music Survey" and the National Symphony Orchestra broadcasts. We've also added a couple of items to "The Museum," and some items on other pages, so as always, check around!
And we're still looking for your Mutual audio - particularly sportscasts and features - and stories. E-mail me!

September 16, 2014: New in "The Stories:" "The Walter Winchell Show," which brought the famed columnist to Mutual (because no one else would have him). Also: new additions to the "Museum," new advertiser tables for the 30s and 40s, and a few additions to other pages, so check around.

July 6, 2014: More additions: We've turned the "memories" section into "The Stories," which will highlight individual shows and stories from contributors. First up: the story of the 1941-42 "Spotlight Bands" series sponsored by Coca-Cola. And there's more to come!
And a reminder to you that we're looking for your audio and stories! If you've got airchecks of anything Mutual, please consider sharing it.
E-mail me!

July 2, 2014: We've prettied up the masthead, which I think makes the whole site MUCH more attractive. We've also been adding more information and a few pictures, so stroll around.
There's also something new in the "Museum:" a 1964 network schedule, courtesy of my friend Jim Guthrie in New York. I met Jim on a recent trip back east, and he gave me more schedules and a few goodies which we'll be adding before too long.

May 19, 2014: Word has come to MBSTS that longtime Mutual correspondent Dan Scanlan passed away earlier this month at the age of 74. He was in semi-retirement, though worked occasionally as an anchor and writer at Westwood One and NBC News Radio. Thanks to Lawrence Stoler for the tip.
BTW, for those who've asked, I'm working on the "Memories of Mutual" page, and plan to have it up shortly. Keep checking back!

Apr. 29, 2014: We've finally added the "Networks at War" page, and updated some other pages with new information, so surf around - you'll probably find something new. Also, there's some new audio in the "Listening Room," notably a "Larry King Show" segment from late 1978 with King's psychic readings from the planet Fringus. Enjoy!!

Mar. 20, 2014: MBSTS has learned that former MBS President Jack Clements died Feb. 17 in Aiken, SC. He was 85. No cause of death was given, but we understand he had been in ill health for some time.

Nov. 16, 2013: Some new goodies in the "Listening Room:" several newscasts from 1967, 1970 and 1972, and stingers for the Black and Spanish Networks!
Keep checking back, because I've got a bunch of new things to add, not only audio, but new stories, pictures and history, all coming soon!

Nov. 9, 2013: MBSTS has learned that former MBS president C. Edward Little died Oct. 19 of complications of pneumonia. His contributions to the network can be found on the "1972-1977" page. Thanks to Bob Moore for passing on the info.

Oct. 23, 2013: Made some slight changes to the "Listening Room" that places each item with the logo from that period.

Oct. 19, 2013: New additions to the "Listening Room:" several newscasts from 1964, including one from Tony Marvin - though not the infamous "drink milk" newscast of Halloween 1963, the 50th anniversary of which is not far away!

Sept. 26, 2013: WE'RE BACK, after a brief timeout. I thank those of you who were concerned for the kind thoughts, I'm deeply touched. And we've got a few new goodies for you in the "Gift Shop," with more to come.
I've also noticed that someone has been lifting some of the audio and images here and putting it on youtube. I know there's nothing that can be done about it, but still it's disappointing that someone would take MY hard work and pass it off as their own. If they would at least add a link to this site, I wouldn't be nearly as irked. Anyway, "eblackadder3," I know what you're up to!!

May 31, 2013: Added a promo for "Elmer Dapron's Grocery List." Also corrected the spelling of SYDNEY Omarr on the "Amway" page (oops!).

May 29, 2013: Check out the "Listening Room:" I've emptied my tapes and discs and have added a TON of new promos and sounders (and there's more to come!). I've also added a "Gift Shop" (fictitious, though), with pictures of some items Mutual issued through the years.

May 22, 2013: For a site that hadn't been touched in three years, boy are we busy now! This time, some 1973 promos courtesy of Jim Guthrie in New York.
I've also corrected the spellings of Kurt HENSCHEN and Fred LOWERY. Being one with an impossible-to-spell last name myself, I do know the importance of careful spelling. And though Kurt and Fred are no longer with us, I do want to get it right, and apologize for the error.

May 21, 2013: Another addition to the "Listening Room:" the John Wayne tribute from 1979, aired during "The Larry King Show."

May 20, 2013: Today I've added a few thoughts to the "Epilog" page, as well as some more to the "Listening Room," including a Black Network newscast and a complete 1980 edition of "The World This Morning."
Hope you enjoy them!!

May 19, 2013: Sorry we've been away so long, but you haven't been forgotten! I've added some 1977 newscasts to the "Listening Room," moved some files around, and converted all of them to mp3s.

April 2, 2010: I've fixed some broken and missing links (why do they keep cropping up?), so now there's a disclaimer page. In the "Listening Room," there's now a banner, and NEW AUDIO, courtesy Jim Guthrie: an early (and very funky) Black Network promo.

March 3, 2010: New audio in the "Listening Room:" Charles King's final "One Man's Opinion" commentary from August 1973, courtesy of Jim Guthrie in New York, who has generously opened up his files to us. You'll be seeing and hearing a lot of his contributions before too long.
Also added: the final newscast out of Arlington, delivered by Sean Hall, who sent it to us. I've also fixed the link to the classic 1960's sounder, which a lot of you have been asking for, and added an alternate version as a bonus.

March 2, 2010: We're trying out a new home page, and will be making some additions to the site with some great contributions from fellow Mutual fans & former Mutual employees. There are a couple of links that don't work; we're working on fixing those, too. So please pardon the dust! If you can't find what you're looking for, please try again sometime or
e-mail me!
